Purpose of the Associate Pastor Nominating Committee (APNC)
As defined by the Presbyterian Church (USA), the APNC is elected by the congregation to represent them in the search for a new Associate Pastor. Their purpose is to engage in the formal search process, listening to the call of Christ and participating in God’s choice for a candidate to present to the congregation for election as our new Associate Pastor.
Requirements and Expectations of APNC Members
Members of the APNC must be active members of St. Charles Avenue Presbyterian Church (SCAPC) for at least one year, demonstrate faithful participation in both worship and the life of our church, and support the ministry and mission of SCAPC through financial stewardship by pledging.
Responsibilities of the APNC
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
• Meeting frequently (potentially weekly) as a committee to conduct activities related to the search process
• Narrowing the field of prospective pastors through listening to sermons, checking references (which is done both by the APNC and the Presbytery of South Louisiana), and conducting phone or video interviews, all while sharing, listening, and praying together
• Interviewing face-to-face a “short list” of prospective pastors
• Providing regular reports to the congregation on the pastoral search progress
• Receiving, reading, and evaluating Personal Information Forms (PIF) from pastors in a spirit of prayerful openness to the movement of God’s Spirit
• Traveling as necessary to visit and engage with candidates
• Arranging with the Presbytery of South Louisiana for the necessary examinations and approvals of finalists
• Committing to confidentiality of all discussions and decisions, during and even after the process is complete
