Camp RHINO

Camp RHINO

What is Camp RHINO?
Camp RHINO is an exciting new part of the RHINO ministry at St. Charles Ave Presbyterian Church. At Camp RHINO, campers and their leaders will see that there is still much recovery work in New Orleans. Six years after Katrina, many parts of the city and many people are still struggling. At Camp RHINO, you will spend a week here, learning about the city and serving at various mission locations. These may include working at the local food bank, planting a garden or working on an urban farm project in the 9th ward, rebuilding a home with Habitat, leading a Vacation Bible School, and much more. If campers are over the age of 16, they may have the opportunity to work on a Habitat construction site. However at any mission location, you will get a glimpse into the diverse needs of the people of New Orleans, as well as an idea of the needs that might occur in your own home city.
At night, everyone will gather for dinner and activities, followed by devotion or worship. The Camp RHINO theme this year is “HOPE” and the devotions and speakers will focus on what hope has to do with faith, as well as how each camper has brought hope to the people of New Orleans and lastly, how that hope can be taken back home.

Lodging:
Campers will be staying at either the Brent House Hotel or Loyola University dorms. Both places provide sheets and breakfast is available for purchase as well. The Brent House has two well-priced cafeterias. Your hotel room also has a microwave and refrigerator (but no coffee pot), so you could have breakfast in your room. Lunch will be provided each day by Camp RHINO.

Your room will be a place where you can decompress after a day of hard work, think about your time in New Orleans and rest up for the next day.
