Sanctuary Update
In July 2006, work crews began extensive repair and renovation work to our Sanctuary. We are excited to report that they have installed a new roof above the Sanctuary; repaired the slate roof above the Chapel; and installed a new copper roof above the choir room tower (over choir library, old play yard sand box).
On the interior, they have removed all of the crown molding in the Sanctuary ceiling, dismantled the organ pipes, and repaired the heating, ventilating and air conditioning system.
Still to come is the replacement of the Sanctuary side aisle roofs, removal of the burlap panels and asbestos insulation in the Sanctuary ceiling and refinishing of all Sanctuary pews. Our new Sanctuary will include a newly painted ceiling with stencils in the original pattern with one alterationthat being the depiction of the twelve apostle shields in each of the twelve ceiling panels. We will have new flooring as well and much improved acoustics. We are confident that it will be one of the most beautiful Sanctuaries on the Avenue!
We appreciate the patience of the congregation during this time of dislocation. We all eagerly anticipate the day when we can worship again in our Sanctuary, restored to its original beauty.
